Late attempt nets $300 for Corpus Christi-based driver
EDNA, Texas (Nov. 19, 2020) — Corpus Christi-based driver Jamie Dear prevailed in a hotly-contested Time Trial session Thursday night, setting fast time among an impressive field of 55 Factory Stock competitors from around Texas during preliminary action for The Clash at Texana Raceway.
Dear went back out late in the two-hour qualifying session that allowed drivers multiple chances to advance. Dear netted $300 for his blistering lap of 19.353 seconds and earned a provisional starting spot in the Dash and Saturday night's prestigious $3,500-to-win A Main.
Setting second-fastest time was Dalton Faulkner, of Cut and Shoot, Texas. Faulkner put down a lap of 19.471 at 9:15 p.m. To fall just short by .118 to earn $150 and a provisional spot in the Dash and A Main as well. Filling out the remaining top 10 qualifiers were Neil Kemp (19.520); Josh Sewell (19.522); Steven Whiteaker (19.676); Memphis Villarreal (19.768); Tanner Whitmire (19.835); Kasey Kraoss (19.19.861); Craig Oakes (19.897); and Caitlin Leonard (19.902).
Other notable drivers taking times in Thursday night's qualifying activity include Tryton Temple (13th); Cord Beard (16th); GW Egbert (18th); Donald Cain (19th); GW Hessong (25th) Johnny Torres (29th); Ryan Doyon (36th) and Cody Leonard (38th). Hessong went on a roll earlier this year and is always fast.
Texana Raceway's big fall Factory Stock spectacle continues on Friday with qualifying heats for the Factory Stock, along with a full show for Limited Modifieds with heats and a feature. It all culminates with the feature events on Saturday night, with racing starting at 7 p.m. Friday evening's qualifying action is slated to get under way at 8 p.m. CST.
