Green, Hanson, Frydrych pace time trials at Fall Classic

ELM MOTT, Texas (Oct. 21, 2021) — Modified veteran Kevin Green, stock car ace Lance Hanson Jr. and Outlaw Street regular Jerry Frydrych put down the quickest laps in their respective classes, as the  24th annual Fall Classic kicked off with Time Trials on Thursday evening at Heart O' Texas Speedway.

Eight classes of cars filed into the pit area on Thursday in advance of the track's biggest annual event.

On hand to establish locked-in provisional starting positions for Saturday night's A Mains were the IMCA Modifieds, Sport Mods, I-Stock, Factory Stock, Outlaw Streets, Dwarf cars (two classes) and a few Late Models, who will run a special Friday-only program. Over 75 entries got a jump on the event.

Green, of Waco, laid down a lap of 14.905 seconds around the high-banked 1/4-mile oval. He was the only driver to get down under the 15-second bracket, and says he's ready to go for the Fall Classic.

“The car felt great last night,” Green said. “I'm really looking forward to the rest of the weekend. I hope to get qualified tonight and see what I can do in the feature on Saturday night. We'll have plenty of strong cars in our division, so it will be a challenge to get a good spot. We'll give it our best shot.”

Making his debut in the Modified division this weekend is newly-crowned IMCA Southern SportMod National champion Matthew Day. The 18-year-old from Farmersville won 14 features in 47 starts this year and was named Texas Short Track Driver-of-the-Year by the Revved Up Sports Show recently.

“I like the Mod so far, it's a Longhorn chassis,” Day said. “It's a lot of fun to drive. We made a few changes to our setup last night. If we can get it handling a little better and if I drive it right, I think we have a shot to run with those fast guys.”

Hanson, of Palmer, ran a lap of 15.825 seconds to pace the IMCA Stock Car field. Michael Riskey wasn't far off Hanson's pace with a lap of 15.971. The I-Stocks are always fast at Heart O' Texas.

Frydrych, of Austin, laid down a lap of 15.652 to lead all Outlaw Street Stock drivers. Dillon Kidwell was fast like a rocket in Factory Stock, timing in at 16.424 seconds in his Time Trial session. Eighteen Factory Stocks turned out to see if they could ensure they had a guaranteed spot in Saturday's A Main.

“This is only my seventh start and first big show, so I was a little nervous,” Kidwell said of his efforts. “We hurt hurt the car pretty badly last time out at Kennedale. Last night was the first shakedown after we made repairs and did some upgrades. No matter where we qualify, we're also here for a good time.”

The 24th annual Fall Classic at Heart O' Texas Speedway kicks off in earnest this evening with a full show of qualifying and features. The Late Models will go after a $1,000-to-win purse to headline the Friday night program. The Dwarf Car Nationals are also a part of this event and will run two classes.
