“The Champ”, Blake Matjoulis sweeps the board tonight, after a smooth 18.699 lap in qualifying, wins heat number one to take the pole position and eventually the checkered flag here in Knoxville.
Twenty four of the best drivers on dirt will take the grid after four heats and two LCQs, with Matjoulis clearly the guy to beat, with Seay to his outside, Tucker in third, Wilson to his outside, and Casey rounds out your top five. Outside row three, Carr leads off Bishop, Cannon, Houser and Dedmon will be the top ten. Sirratt to the inside of row six, with JD Brown to his outside and Blake Brown close behind, and Graham to his outside. Matthews and Carman make up row eight, leading off Cardwell and Wallace, Crawford and Fletcher make up the twentieth spot. Capron and Prior over Swarts and Driskel the last cars to take the field.
Green flag is out with Matjoulis and Seay, they waste no time getting us cranked up, Tucker and Wilson close behind and less than five laps in, the yellow flag is in the air after the forty four of Blake Cannon makes contact with the double o one of Austin Carr. After Cannon gets an EOL penalty, the field is re-racked and restacked with Matjoulis still your leader over the thirty three of Seay, Tucker and Wilson.
Green flag back in the air, and we get wound back up and we are three and four wide throughout the field. Seven laps in, the second of three cautions waves after the fifteen of Carman makes contact with the o forty four of Swarts winding up in the air.
Matjoulis leads the field back to the green flag with Wilson close behind, side by side, door to door, bumper to bumper as these guys fight like this is the last lap. Casey shows his skill from running from the top side to the berm, putting the pressure on Seay. Fifteen down, Cannon and Carr trade a little paint, leaving Cannon in the wall after an early caution, clearly looking to make his way back up front, now sits in fourteenth.
Half way in, all of the grip appears to have rolled away, as most drivers run high side and handsome, Casey waiting to make the pass on Seay, as Matjoulis runs away with the lead with Wilson in second. What a save by Evan Seay after contact with the forty two D1RT of Jordan Casey, as Wilson tries making up ground on the one twenty seven of Blake Matjoulis.
Dedmon starts to work his way around the bottom side of the track, bringing Davin Cardwell along with him and JD Brown. Matjoulis shows no sign of slowing with Wilson running second, and Swindell Speedlabs man himself, Kendall Tucker now moves into third.
Seay holds the high line, maintaining that door to door with Cardwell, steady clicking off laps, now with fifteen to go, and lap traffic will emerge. Your leader now one and a half seconds over the eighty of Wilson, Tucker holds onto third and your points leader, Dylan Houser runs in fourth. Personally speaking, the best battle on track tonight, is between the forty four of Blake Cannon and the fourteen of JD Brown, for over ten laps.
Five laps remain, as Matjoulis holds on to the lead, after the fast time, qualifying and pole, will the checkered flag be next? Two more times around for the one twenty seven, Wilson close behind, but it isn’t enough, Blake Matjoulis is your winner here tonight in Knoxville!
Congratulations to Swindell Speedlabs driver of Matjoulis on his win, Wilson in second, Tucker in third, Houser in fourth and Casey rounds out your top five.
With only two races remaining this season for the Race on Texas South Texas Speedway Monster Bash Super Series, next week we travel to Charlotte, and will wind the season down at Limaland on December second.
